An automated procedure for determining asymptotic elastic stress fields at singular points

چکیده

The paper describes an analytical tool in MATLAB for determining the nature of the stress and displacement fields near a fairly general singular point in linear elasticity. The user is prompted to input the local geometry of the system, the material properties, and the boundary conditions (and interface conditions in the case of composite bodies or problems involving contact between two or more bodies). The tool then computes the dominant eigenvalue and provides as output the equations defining the singular stress and displacement fields and contour plots of these fields. No knowledge of the asymptotic analysis procedure is required of the user. The tool is tested against previously published results where available and proves to be robust and accurate. It is potentially useful for the development of special finite elements for singular points or for characterizing failure at such points. It can be downloaded from the website http://www-personal.umich.edu/~jbarber/asymptotics/intro.html

Analytical Solution for Two-Dimensional Coupled Thermoelastodynamics in a Cylinder

An infinitely long hollow cylinder containing isotropic linear elastic material is considered under the effect of arbitrary boundary stress and thermal condition. The two-dimensional coupled thermoelastodynamic PDEs are specified based on equations of motion and energy equation, which are uncoupled using Nowacki potential functions. The Laplace integral transform and Bessel-Fourier series are u...

Influences of non-singular stresses on plane-stress near-tip fields for pressure-sensitive materials and applications to transformation toughened ceramics

In this paper, we investigate the effects of the non-singular stress (T stress) on the mode I near-tip fields lbr elastic perfectly plastic pressure-sensitive materials under plane-stress and small-scale yielding conditions. The T stress is the normal stress parallel to the crack faces. The yield criterion for pressure-sensitive materials is described by a linear combination of the effective st...

The singular function boundary integral method for an elastic plane stress wedge beam problem with a point boundary singularity

The singular function boundary integral method (SFBIM) is applied for the numerical solution of a 2-D Laplace model problem of a perfectly elastic wedge beam under plane stress conditions. The beam has a point boundary singularity, it includes a curved boundary part and is subjected to non-trivial distributed external loading. The implemented solution method converges for this special model pro...

Infinite product representation of solution of indefinite SturmLiouville problem

In this paper, we investigate infinite product representation of the solution of a Sturm- Liouville equation with an indefinite weight function which has two zeros and/or singularities in a finite interval. First, by using of the asymptotic estimates provided in [W. Eberhard, G. Freiling, K. Wilcken-Stoeber, Indefinite eigenvalue problems with several singular points and turning points, Math. N...
